i will be adding articles here over the next few days, please add your own

tbh, i have spent more time than i'd like to admit reading, watching and researching diff. media re. the alleged CW attack on the outskirts of Damascus that killed 100's of people

and yet I still cannot find anything resembling 'real proof' as to who is to blame, the assad regime or the 'rebels' (or some faction thereof)

the 2kg of sarin supposedly found with Al-Nursa rebels in May turns out to be anti-freeze (reported by Turkish officials), the Britam Defence e-mails were an elaborate hoax. the main crux of the US Govt. etc argument is that the rebels were incapable of such an attack, therefore it was assad

Whilst I appreciate all the different theories of what's going on - i'd just like to see some bloody proof!

I agree entirely TA. There's no concrete evidence for either case imo. The lack of which only fuels the conspiracy theories and subsequent plethora of 'whataboutery'.

IMPO There's no case for war....

This video seems to show the best evidence that the rebels were responsible, even though it isn't conclusive. It does seem to show that the US argument that the rebels could not have done it due to not having the ability isn't true.

Russia Chemical Attack Probe Shows "Weapons Similar To Ones Made By Rebels"

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 09/04/2013 12:48 -0400

While John Kerry remains adamant that it is "undeniable" that the Assad regime was behind the chemical weapon attacks in Syria, the results of Russia's probe suggest the truth is anything but undeniable...

  • RUSSIA SAYS SHELL USED IN ATTACK WASN'T STANDARD SYRIA ORDNANCE
  • RUSSIA SAYS SHELL USED IN CHEMICAL ATTACK WAS MAKESHIFT DEVICE
  • RUSSIA SAYS GAS USED IN SYRIA WASN'T INDUSTRIALLY PRODUCED
And perhaps most critically, as Reuters reports, the foreign minstry statement asserts that Russian expert findings show the weapon used in the Syrian chemical attack was similar to the ones made by a rebel group.

And like that, the first step to all out war has been taken:

SENATE PANEL AUTHORIZES LIMITED U.S. MILITARY STRIKE IN SYRIA
Vote breakdown: 10 Yes; 7 No; 1 Present. The measure includes new language saying U.S. policy is to "change the momentum on the battlefield in Syria" in way that brings about negotiated settlement of conflict, leading to a democratic govt in Syria. In other words: a pro-Qatari/Saudi coalition government that will permit the passage of natgas pipelines under Syria, through Turkey and into Europe, breaking Gazpromia's marginal energy monopoly over the broke continent.

Next up:

FULL U.S. SENATE TO CONSIDER SYRIA RESOLUTION NEXT WEEK
After that the House, and it's cruise missiles away.

And now, and as always, the ball is in Putin's court.

So, war it is [sigh]. Was there ever really any doubt as to the outcome....God help us all.

The evidence seems as sketchy as when they convinced the world of Iraq WMD's, but I guess it doesn't matter to the desperate US in their last ditch attempt to maintain their global superpower status.

So I guess we need to work out what is going to happen when the US launch the attack, what are the Russians going to do about it?

Exactly Pix, the US strike is virtually a foregone conclusion. I guess the G20 could attempt an 11th hour diplomatic solution or Assad could stand down, but I think it's unlikely. I'm concentrating on the probable impact here in the UK (as the possible scenarios in the M.E are too complex for me to get my head around).

I think even with the deployment of strategic oil reserves we are looking at higher (poss v. high) petrol prices which in turn will lead to higher food prices (maybe even food shortages/rationing). Going into Winter, I am sure the UK energy providers will jump on the bandwagon and increase gas and elec prices over and above their already announced increases, we may even see energy shortages with rolling blackouts or energy rationing. If the war becomes protracted and spreads beyond the M.E, the possibility of attacks on UK strategic and high value assets/targets may become a possibility. Hope I'm wrong on all of the above.

Consider me surprised and relieved in equal measure.

I know an MP that voted against our getting into Syria, the next time I see him I'll thank him.
