Interested to see what expectations are about the FED quantitative easing program stopping this month and when they will initiate the next program.

All previous QE programs have stopped and been almost immediately replaced with a larger program. I think we are on the infinite road and QE will never be able to stop or rates be raised, they have to make it appear that they can stop it though hence we have the continual stop start routine.

Interesting timing with current finish of QE3, just before the US mid term elections on November 4th, It looks like we are going to have a crashing stock market as they go to the polls. I don't think it will be long before they restart QE in whatever form it takes, but think they probably will leave it a while to take some air out of the market. They know that the economy cannot stand on it own feet and they also know that someone needs to be buying the US gov debt, which will mean that they won't be able to leave it long.

The gap between QE1 and QE2 was around 5 months, between QE2 and Operation Twist (QE3?) was under 3 months Operation Twist and QE3 overlapped by around 1 quarter. So judging by previous gaps it looks like that it needs to be done immediately.

There are so many bulls around believing that the worst is now behind us and this recovery is for real, when it restarts this time I wonder if they will be so easily fooled next.

Is QE 4 Right Around The Corner?

Summary

  • QE 3 is scheduled to end on Monday, October 27th.
  • The market likely rallied the way it has in anticipation of QE 4, which the Fed may announce on October 29th.
  • Even though the economy is close to full employment, inflation data gives the Fed flexibility in continuing QE 4.
  • Over the past few days, the market made one of the most breath-taking rallies in history.

The S&P 500 rallied over 140 points from the October 15 intraday low, all in just 7 days. At one point, the VIX also fell by more than 10% in 3 consecutive days, something that has never occurred before.

While the exact cause of this rally is unknown, it stands to the reason that the market rallied because that the Federal Reserve may launch QE 4 during the next FOMC meeting next week...

Gross: Global economy cannot live without QE

As the US Federal Reserve finally turns off the money printing presses, veteran investor Bill Gross has warned the global economy cannot survive without the support of quantitative easing.

The bond manager who recently left PIMCO to join Janus Capital, said the economy as it stands today needs an easy money supply to stay alive.

His comments come a week after the Federal Reserve finally put an end to its bond buying programme, leaving the economy to run unsupported for the first time since the financial crisis.

"Stopping the printing press sounds like a great solution to the depreciation of our purchasing power, but today's printing is simply something that the global finance-based economy cannot live without," he said...

"Inflation, in other words - or in simple math - is required to pay for prior inflation. Deflation is no longer acceptable."

"One economy (the financial one) thrives while the other economy (the real one) withers," he said.
