Cruise farce leads to airport chaos
https://www.portugalresident.com/covid- ... -positive/
Covid-blighted cruise ship the AIDAnova, due to have left Lisbon today with a whole new crew (click here), has had to accept defeat after 13 further people (all fully vaccinated) have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

The fact that none are showing any serious symptoms (if they are showing symptoms at all) hasn’t been enough to ‘save’ the cruise. The owning company is calling it a day and beginning to disembark the more than 3,000 passengers plus 1,000-odd crew so that they can take flights home (mostly to Germany) from Lisbon airport (see note below).

Ports commander Vieira Branco has said there will be no risks in disembarking such a large number of people. All will have received negative tests before being allowed off the ship.

The new infections were detected mainly in crew members (another eight), plus in five passengers.

Everyone on board is reported to have been fully-vaccinated.

Note: scenes at Lisbon airport have been confused and chaotic today as crowds gather in order to be tested before taking their flights. ANA airports authority has said it will be beefing-up testing capacity, but appeals to travellers to try and get tested elsewhere in order to reduce the sheer numbers of people gathering in the airport complex. The situation has not been helped by Lisbon’s 11 free testing centres being closed today because it is Sunday.

No, no no no :wtf:
https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/cnn- ... icism-2021

"Chicago woman quarantined in airplane bathroom for 3 hours after testing positive for Covid-19 mid-flight"
-

the CNN headline reads. She locked herself in the bathroom while en route from Chicago to Reykjavik, Iceland (she planned to go on to visit family in Switzerland) - after panicking upon discovering that a sore throat was the onset of coronavirus. CNN seems to actually hail her as some kind of hero of public conscientiousness. The start of the story perfectly encapsulates the kind of neurosis and failed precautions and anxiety-inducing "health rituals" which have taken hold over vast segments of the population. The woman took no less than seven Covid tests just before the flight:

7 tests before the flight. Keep testing and eventually, you will come up positive.

Banana Republicana strikes again. (This has been awaited for some time)
Oh dear. How can the peasantry vote when in moronic isolation?
The Presidente speaks:-
https://www.portugalresident.com/politi ... r-to-vote/

The enormous problem of how to get round the possibility that as much as 12% of the population could be ‘isolating’ due to Omicron by election day has seen politicians keen to find a solution.

And the solution being suggested this afternoon is a simple one: ‘just let them out…’

After all the focus on testing, re-testing, isolating and serving stipulated time-periods ‘out of circulation’, the best way authorities can see this crucial voting issue being settled is simply to ignore the guidelines and then bustle people quickly back into their homes as if they had never left them.

Of course, that isn’t quite the way they put it.

President Marcelo found the words: “The prime minister has announced that the minister for interior administration will ask the consultative council of the Attorney General’s Office for an opinion on whether it believes isolation impedes the exercising of the right to vote, or if it is possible to exercise the right to vote, in conditions of safety, in spite of isolation – this is, suspending isolation for this purpose”.

Marcelo opened the door to another possibility: “If it is possible or not constitutionally, and if it is possible or not in the due time, for a legislative touch that could help face this situation”.

Banana Republicana general election update
https://www.portugalresident.com/doctor ... e-to-vote/

Doctors against letting the isolated out to vote as it undoes all their work
the government has said it is looking into the possibility of letting isolated people out on polling day, on the understanding that they will return to isolation once they have ‘exercised their Constitutional right’ (click here).

In the words of Gustavo Tato Borges “If the government accepts this breach (of isolation), or sets this precedent, it may happen that public health doctors will stop doing their work with the same determination because the government pulls the rug from under their feet”.

There’s another point to the outrage: a number of public health doctors are facing cases in court for decisions they have taken in ordering people into isolation. “If the government decides isolation isn’t that important, then it is telling these people (who are prosecuting the doctors) that they are right”, he warned.
